- TACTICS: FLANKING MANOEUVRE -

TACTICS: [open terrain]  [urban war]  [in the wood]  [flanking manoeuvre]  [frontal assault]

WEAPONS, MACHINES AND MEN: [infantry teams]  [support units]  [armoured vehicles]

If you want to defeat stronger enemy units, flanking them is one of the best ways to do it! Even the elite troops get scared and surrender very quickly when they are flanked. This is also a good tactics to support your main attacking force (look under "Frontal assault") and surrounding the enemy. For flanking manoeuvres, SPEED is the most important element.

Flanking manoeuvre

Explaination: German VL is heavily guarded, so a classic frontal assault would result in too many loses. Support weapons (1) would be very helpful here but many times they are not available, especially in early years of the war, so we`ll behave like they don`t exist. The best thing is to attack from two sides: the main force (2) will provide cover support for the units flanking the enemy (3) and, in the end, they will capture the VL. Make sure the command team is nearby! The assault is launched in three steps:

A) Under the cover of your main force (2), order the fast units (light tanks, armoured cars) with supporting infantry (3) to take position A;

B) Now the troops on the flank provide support. Tank fire will press the enemy down and kill many soldiers. It is time to move the main force (2) to closer position B. When it arrives, hand grenades and SMG weapons will have devastating effect;

C) Because the enemy was under continuos fire and had many loses, even the strongest units will fall low on morale and soldiers will probably flee or surrender. To prevent the enemy to withdraw and regroup, move your flanking teams (3) to the enemies back (point C), and surround him. The main force (2) will now have an easy job with clearing the area of any remaining soldiers.

Fast LIGHT TANKS and ARMOURED CARS can do a great job in breaking the enemy defence. If you can move units from side to enemy's back, his chances of getting out of this are very small. While one team is providing suppression fire, move the other straight to the enemy. In the houses, sometimes infantry will faster eliminate the opponent using bayonets, than the automatic weapons! Don't forget about a command team or your units morale will be low, making them an easy target.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

- SUPRESSION FIRE is a good way of shutting down your opponent`s defence. If you know that enemy is in some house and even if you can't see him clearly (e.g. you just see shots coming from that direction), order your teams to shoot on that building! This will keep the defenders down (their morale will fall and they'll panic, maybe you kill some of them...), and allow your troops to attack from their flank and finish the task with minimal loses.
